My 9 year old son locked himself out of his ipod, it says to connect to itunes. The only advice I can find on here is to reset the ipod which in turn deletes everything that was downloaded unless you use computer where you last synched ipod.

If you can't remember the Passcode, you need to restore the device from the computer it was last synced with.

iTunes purchases can be re downloaded for free using the same Apple ID that was used for the original purchases > Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

Resetting is the only solution. He will lose everything unless it was recently synced with iTunes so that there is a restorable backup.

Or, if you have iCloud backup, you can restore all of your apps that way too.

what i usually do is

plug into iTunes

right click the ipod and make a backup

put it in restore mode

restore the IOS

restore from backup from iTunes

all your stuff is there and it would ask you to enter a new passcode

one thing about manuely adding the apps is it wont store your save games, only in backups and iCloud it will

most of it is recoverable.
