How to duplicate calendar events copy paste?

I am trying to build my schedule on calendars with my iPad. I would like to put in my work schedule but I don't work the same days every week. I am looking for a way to copy paste/duplicate entries so I don't have to keep inputting them. Because I don't work the same days each week/month I can't use the repeat feature. I have tried a long press to copy and paste but it moves the whole event and doesn't duplicate it. Is there a way to do this? I have found that I can do this on my Macbook Pro in iCal and then it updates the iPad through iCloud but I would like to do it with my iPad because I have the iPad and iPhone with me all the time and the Macbook stays at home.

As you probably know, on OSX, you can option-drag and duplicate and event; then edit it.

I haven't been able to do exactly the same thing in iOS, BUT it provides similar functionality:

  1. Click on the date where you want the new event to be. (Optional. Otherwise, you have to change the date as you create it.)
  2. Click "+" to create a new event
  3. As you start to type the Title, you will get "smart auto-fill entries" below the field. When type enough to see the one you want, click on it. It will create a new event with
    • All the same settings (e.g., Repeat, Calendar, Alerts, INVITEES, etc.) EXCEPT
    • The time and date will be the date you have selected and the time you create the event. But you were going to have to change these anyway, so that makes sense.
  4. Click "Add" and you're done.

In some ways, this method is better than duplicate and edit (e.g., you don't have to find the old event in order to use it as a template; it pops up automatically).

HOWEVER, one BIG caveat.

Be sure to check the INVITEES. I used this technique once to remind myself of a staff meeting. I didn't realize it had copied an event created BY MY BOSS that invited the WHOLE STAFF. As soon as I clicked "Add" they all got an invitation from me for the meeting. Then I started getting RSVPs. Quite embarrassing. Let my tale be a warning to you!

Other than that...I liked the play.

You can check the days of the week . Do a repeating event, every week, on more than one day.

Here's how: Enter event, select repeating, select "custom" which brings you to an option for repeating weekly, AND lists each day under that. You can select 2 different days such as Monday and Thursday, or whichever and how many

days you want. Hope this helps. Remember, select "repeating " then "custom".

Still, should absolutely be able to copy to another day like every other calendar app in the world.

I realize this is an old post, but as a new google calendar user I also ran into the lack of event duplication capability in the app. Here is one more work around: I open the Safari (I'm using an old iPad) and enter //calendar.google.com If it you don't immediately see the desktop version, look at the bottom of the site and select desktop. You now have the same capabilities (more or less, sometimes it can be a bit hinky) as if you were sitting at a computer. Select the event you would like to duplicate and enter edit mode. if you haven't used google calendar from the browser, you will see differences; the most important for this I'd the "More actions" drop down menu at the top. From there select duplicate and then edit the event for any difference from the original. one more tip: this the same work around I use in google contacts and gmail when I run into a missing capability in the app - versus the full desktop version. I hope this helps someone out there.

I found a solution which is almost as good (iOS 10.2.1):

Let's say you have already added an event with the name 'Doctors appointment'.

When you add a new event and start typing the name 'Doc', the app will auto suggest 'Doctors appointment' below the title input. If you tap the suggestion, the app will copy all the information you added in the previous 'Doctors appointment' event, except for the day and time.

I realize this is a bit of a work around, but as a new google calendar user I also ran into the lack of event-duplication capability in the app. This works on my ipad and iphone: I open the Safari and enter //calendar.google.com If it doesn't come up in desktop version (versus the mobile versions - and don't let it take you to the app), look at the bottom of the webpage and select desktop. You now have the same capabilities (more or less, sometimes it can be a bit hinky) as if you were sitting at a computer. Select the event you would like to duplicate and enter edit mode. If you haven't used google calendar from a web browser before, you will see differences; the most important is the "More actions" drop down menu at the top. From there select duplicate and then edit the event for any differences from the original. Once you save the duplicated/new event, your google calendar app will reflect the update. One more tip: this is the same work around I use in google contacts and gmail when I run into a missing capability in the app - versus the full desktop version. I hope this helps.

As you know by now, there is now way to copy and paste (drag and drop duplicate) iPad Calendar events. However, I have found a workaround that allows you to duplicate an event and place the duplicates in various dates on your Calendar. NOTE: This is probably not too practical for making a single copy, but it does save time and keystrokes for multiple copies. In Calendar, tap on the event you want to duplicate and select Edit. In the Edit window select Repeat. In the Repeat window select Every Day, then tap Done to take you back to the Edit menu. Tap End Repeat and select an end date that will give you the number of copies you want (e.g., if the original event date is 11/12 and you want 5 copies, select 11/17 as the End Repeat date. Tap Done twice to return to the Calendar. Then just drag the Repeats/Copies to the various dates where you want them placed (works best in Month view). When you finish each drag/drop, you will get a "This is a repeating event" pop-up window; you need to select "Save for this event only."

I'm brand new to apple and this is a problem for me. I just bought my first ipad and iPhone this month. I'll probably end up downloading a different calendar that has this capability. The work around is a great solution unless you're like me and your event repeats every week on the same day, but also on another day of the week or even more. A simple option in the repeat where you check the days of the week you want it to repeat on seems so simple. My wife was just trying to enter an event that lasts the month of December every Monday and Friday the same time both days. Such a common task that's not so easy to schedule on the ipad.
