I have many downloads in this file and I would like to move them to trash. I am unable to do this in one step, so I am manually clicking on each one.
There must be a better way?

If the items are still in the Downloads folder, open the Downloads folder in Finder. Select all or a group of them (hold down Shift while clicking on each in turn to make a multiple selection). Then press Command-Delete (that's the large Delete key two rows above Return).
This should move all the selected items into the Trash.
You can empty the Trash by pressing Commadn-Shift-Delete

If you want to select some (not all), you hold the Shift key and then start selecting icons, you can move them all to the Trash at once. You do need to select them all, but once they are all highlighted, they will all move to the Trash in unison.
Pressing command A will select all the items in the active window.
Thanks Mike that is what I was trying to do, instead of looking at each one and highlighting it! I knew I wanted to get rid of all of them and thanks for taking the time.

Hold down the cmd (Command) key on your keyboard while clicking to select the files you want to move to trash, then once all are selected just click (and hold) and drag them to the Trash
This is exacty what I am doing, and it takes forever to click each one. I was hoping there was a way to select all and delete all in one step. There is no select all.
