Jumpy disc readings on macbook pro

I have a mscbook pro and we have been using it as a dvd player hookup to our tv doing the split screen thing. We noticed that the movies were very jumpy but we thought it was just the dvd's that were old but we watched some brand new dvd the other night and noticed the same thing, and we had to use one of my friends one night and this jumping didnt occur, thats when I realized it must be my computer. My mac is still under apple care so I was wondering what this is if I need to take it to an apple store or a software issue? Thanks for your help!
