Is it a Smart Cover for an iPad 2? They changed the polarity of the magnets in the new Smart Covers, while they didn't care for the iPad 2 Smart Covers. You can go to an Apple Store and they'll exchange it for free.
I had the ipad2 and the leather smart cover worked pretty good. With the new Ipad3 the cover is miserable, falling off all the time. I just spent a unproductive 30 minutes on the phone with apple going thru voice prompts and multiple agents with each one telling me they could not help me and transfering me to the next person who could not help me. Its days like this that you really can dislike apple as customer support is about impossible to get in any meaningful and prompt manner. No solution so far and I do not have a store nearby. Exchangign one for the same thing will likely not help unless the magnets wore out that fast.
If you are close to an Apple Store take the Smart Cover there. The polarity of the magnet made no difference for the iPad 2 but with the new iPad the magnet must be oriented a certain way. Many covers that previously worked fine will no longer work. I've read that Apple will replace those with working covers.
My NEW smart cover comes off the iPad 3 frequently. I just dinged my iPad last night on the corner when it slipped out of the smart cover. The old smart cover and iPad 2 worked great. Very solid. But I got a new cover at the Apple store after I got my iPad 3 and the hold is much worse. I no longer recommend the smart cover on the iPad 3
I have an IPad and just purchased a smart cover. There is absolutely no magnetic effect between the cover and the IPAD. Anybody have a suggestion?? Totally frustrated!!
Read the previous post about magnet polarity and take the cover back for a replacement.
Same here, cover often falls off my iPad3 (old connector, Retina display)
Since I 99% always want the cover attached, I just put a strip of scotch tape down the spine. You can use tape which leaves little residue, or not.
If you ever want to clean any residue, use an earswab and Eucalyptus oil to dissolve the adhesive. Use a clean tissue to remove excess before it dries.
Magnetic problems solved by glue - hurray!
