Contour Roam .mov (h.264) HD Camcorder Video Not Uploading Into iMovie '11
I purchased a Contour Roam head cam that shoots .mov files in h.264. iMovie '11 does not recognize the files for editing. Help, please!

Have you tried attaching your camcorder via USB (or card reader) and then in iMovie use FILE/IMPORT/MOVIES.../ and navigate to your camera?
AM1958,
In order to free up the memory card, I downloaded all of the clips to a new folder on my Desktop. So, the clips no longer exist on the camera/memory card itself.
To provide further info, I just upgraded to Lion and also upgraded to iMovie '11 and iPhoto '11 so that I'm running all of the most current programs. No luck.
iPhoto '11 recognizes and will play the clips. But, I understand that iMovie '11 is an **editing** program and that's where I'm running into trouble. It won't transfer these .mov (h.264) files into a media language iMovie can work with.
I found this in the Contour Roam manual.
+ DOWNLOADING FILES WITHOUT STORYTELLER
+ Connect the camera to any PC or Mac using the supplied USB cable. + The camera will mount as a generic storage device. + Navigate to the mounted device. + Video and still image files are located in the \DCIM\100MEDIA directory.
Video files can be copied to your hard drive and played with any .mov video player (i.e. QuickTime, Windows Media Player, Storyteller, and VLC).
Mac Users: Please make certain when deleting files from your microSD card to empty the “trash bin” while the camera is connected to your
Mac. Otherwise, the deleted files will remain on your camera’s microSD card in a hidden folder and may prevent subsequent videos
from recording properly.
Wow. Much appreciated, AM1958. Very kind of you to actually dig up and consult the camcorder manual.
Unfortunately, I have already deleted the files off of the camcorder microSD card.
I am "stuck" with having to convert the files as they exist on my hard drive.
Again -- many thanks.
Hi,
Did you ever find a solution?
I'm having exactly the same problem with video files from my Contour+. I am not able to import these videos to iMovie, nor convert them with QuickTime into another format (I get a message "the media may be damaged").
I can import the videos into iPhoto '11 v 9.3 and from there access the clips in iMovie, but I don't seem to be able to import them directly to iMovie. This is annoying because I would like to keep the files on my external video hard disk to avoid eating up too much space on my built-in drive.
Any suggestions are welcome.
