iWeb starts but don't show project window on OSX Lion

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.

Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.

WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder. So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

Reboot your Mac and run Disk Utility to repair permissions.

Try the following:

1. delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.




2. go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.

3. launch iWeb and try again.

If that doesn't help continue with:

1. move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
2. launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
3. go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
4. move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
5. launch iWeb and try again.

Ah ha! You video just triggered something: Try this:

1 - close iWeb and open iPhoto.

2 - select a couple of photos and use the Share ➙ iWeb ➙ Photos Page menu option.

Give it a couple of tries if the first try doesn't help.

I assume you were able to open a new domian file and create a new site, correct? If that's the case the only other fix I can think of is the fix that Koeklin mentions in this topic: can't open a domain.sites.2: Apple Support Communities

Log into another user account on your Mac and see if you can launch iWeb and create a new domain file and website.

I missed this from your first post: because it is size zero. It looks like the app is damaged so you'll have to reinstall iWeb.

Move your iWeb applicaiton to the Trash bin in the Dock and along with all files with "iWeb" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/ folder,

Then re-install iWeb from the disk it came on originally. If iWeb came installed on your MacBook Pro you should have a disk like one of these:

I would suggest that you get the disc back from your cousin - that is the easy option.

The only way that you can get iWeb now is to get either the iLife 09 or iLife 11 boxed set from Amazon. The Apple store no longer sells it and the Mac App Store never has.

iWeb is a discontinued product so either you get that disc back from your cousin or you end up purchasing iLife 11 on Amazon or Ebay - the prices will start to increase though as the stocks run low.
