The sound in my new iPad has suddenly stopped working. The keyboard sound has also stopped. This happened while I was playing a game on the iPad. I have checked the sound setting which has been turned on.

It sounds like your mute switch got flipped. If you have the side switch set for sound, flip it. If not, doulbe tap the home button. Swipe to see the far left end of the task bar and see if sound is muted. Note, this only affects 'system sounds' not music or audio from videos or embedded game sounds, but doe affect all system sounds, which many game use.
If that does not work double tap the home button and slide the multitasking window two to the left you will see a volume slider on the bottom left corner.

Also, go to settings > sounds > keyboard clicks is on.
