Battery Life iPad 3

Battery life in this is appauling, whats even more surprising, it wont allow me to use it on low battery - charging at the same time so I can continue to be used. For example when my iphone 4S is low on battery I can charge and use at the same time - not so with the iPad.

Anything to try?

I dont want to turn off wi fi or anything else - need them to be running, thats why I have it.

I keep saying the same thing on every forum. In summary: Battery life on iPad 3 is depressingly SHORT. And yes, I know about turning off WIFI, closing apps in background, etc. Same thing.

It's simply SHORT. And unaccaptable. I'm a business owner who needs reliability on the move. Bought iPad 3 become of high resolution. But this short battery, got me to purchase another backup external battery.

same with me, so disappointed with ipad3, mine running one app plugged into 10watt supply still loses 2-3% every 5 minutes. today it lost 40% in 2 hours. it is unusable and the store as you can guess suggest not using it in the way it was advertised. I.E. switch it all off and dim the screen to the point that you can only view it with the blinds drawn. I have sen mine back to apple under the complaint that it is not fit for purpose.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.

Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. I have the same problem,, my iPad 2 would last me the work day and then just messing around until I went to bed, I brought the new iPad last week, now it dies half-way through the day, I will have to go back to the iPad 2 for work, I will also have to make sure not to upgrade my Emploiees iPads (they use for work as well) I am glad others are having the same issue, I was thinking, my pad was broken,, I thought the new iPad was supposed to have greater battery life?

You really need to drain the battery all the way initially and charge it to 100%. I had the original iPad though and the battery life on the new iPad is much shorter. If I use it for games 5-6 hours, internet ~8-9 hours, movies ~8 hours. I've played with multiple settings to try to squeeze the 10 hours out of it, but haven't gotten there yet. I even thought it might be something to do with the WiFi signal issues everyone has been mentioning and bought an Airport Express to extend my Extreme's reach and that didn't do anything (Have great WiFi though 🙂). As a last resort I even got mine replaced at an Apple store and still the same.

So, is it the 10 hours that is advertised? Not based on my experience. Is it close enough for me? For now.

Im sorry but! my ipad2 running the same film at same percieved brightness etc lasts much much longer than my ipad3.

I have noticed that my ipad3 charger says it is 5.1volt and 2.1amp which is over 10watts albeit only just.

If I charge my ipad 3 with its charger to 100% and then for the extra hour we have all been reading about, then unplug it... the ipad drops to 98% instantly and drops off very quickly ie. 20% every 10 minutes....

If I use my ipad2 charger in the same way it does not drop to 98% and the charge lasts twice as long?

my local apple store insists this is "normal" and I should reduce the screen brightness and switch off all apps and wifi and bluetooth etc...... needless to say, i no longer use an ipad 3

I'm getting on average 13-14 hrs out of my 3rd gen iPad on a full charge. I use it about 6 hours a day, browsing and gaming mostly. I actually did do a detailed measurement. If you go to settings > general > usage and scroll down to the bottom, you'll see the battery use stats (this feature is new to iOS 6). According to this, I have been using my iPad for 13 hrs, 31 mins and my battery level is at 3%. I have not plugged it in since the last charge, btw. I have wifi on, brightness ~40%.

In standby, my iPad can go a full day without dropping at all. I get about the same battery life every time.

Maybe I got an extremely lucky unit?

Or maybe I take good care of it?

The latter is most likely.

Here's the best way to destroy a Li-Po battery: leave it at >90°F for more than 10 minutes. If you leave your iPad in a hot car or in direct sunlight, the battery will be destroyed. I'm guessing that's why most of you have such terrible battery life.
