iPad 3 charging time

My new iPad 3 was charging for 9 hours and the charge went from 9% to just 54%. The iPad was switched on but not being used so the display was off. Do iPad 3's normally take so long to charge.

Mine certainly doesn't take that length of time. It easily charges over night from empty to full.

Have you tried closing out all apps to ensure that nothing is running in the background. I also turn it off completely to ensure that it isn't connected to the network. Also worth checking that you're using the 10W iPad charger rather than inadvertantly an iPhone charger which has a lower power.

Hope this helps.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.

Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. Yes, based upon some outside testing I've read, it should still be charged for 2 hours 10 minutes AFTER it reaches 100%. If you charge the unit for about 7.5 hours using the wall charger it came with - you will achieve its FULL charge, and should then get 9-11 hours of heavy usage time, if the battery and unit are properly functioning.

Thanks, read the article from the link above about iPad charging. I understand now why the 3rd generation

iPad takes so long to charge. Basically it as a much bigger battery capacity the the older iPads and the

10 watt charger supplied is just not powerful enough for the job. The charger can't even charge the battery

and run the iPad at the same time. That's poor and a big oversight by Apple. They bring us this wonderful

cutting edge technology but can't even provide a power supply man enough to charge it. Come on Apple

get the basics right first?.
