San Francisco Chronicle App is classed as FREE but is not

San Francisco Chronicle is classed as Free but when I installed it the first time I tried to use it I was expected to sign up to pay although the first 14 days was free. This misled me as I might end up paying by default.

Call Nancy Pelosi's office and complain to them. There is nothing we can do to help you.

As stated, the app itself is free, the content is not. This is not unusual at all, and you will not be charged unless you opt to buy a subscription. If you are unhappy with that, contact the vendor who provides the content. It is there decision, not Apple's. And no, this is a user forum, Apple will not respond to you or change policy because you choose to complain about it here.

How newsstand works is, publishers put out an app, and that allows for in app purchases of content or subscriptions. The app is free, the content isn't. Just like a bunch of games where levels 1-100 are free, 101+ are pay, or the .99 that you have to pay for the Mighty Eagle in Angry BIrds.

THe app is free...just like scanning through a magazine at the store is free, but to actually sit down and read it they expect you to pay.

If you feel APple could do more, use the 'contact us' link at the lower right to send apple an e-mail.

Yes, they can - and the app is FREE. Did you pay anything for it?

The vast majority of the newspaper, magazine, and media apps works this way - did you expect them to give away their content for free?

You did not have to pay for a subscription to receive the content. They make it very clear that you have to pay to get more - the idea that you would accidentally do this "by default" is absurd.

Apple surely decide if an app can be classified as FREE or not.

No, they can't. Only the developers of the app decide whether it is free or not.

If an APP can be classed as FREE because you can download it FREE then all APPS can Be classed as FREE

What?

All apps could be provided for free if the developers of those apps decided to do that. However, just like anybody else, app developers need to make a living. Some choose to sell their apps, others choose to provide them for free and get revenue in some other way (like charging for in-app content, or including adverts with the app).

When I go to the Apps I can ask to be shown only the Apps that are FREE. By doing so I am plainly asking not to be shown Apps that I have to pay for and I am sure that it Apple's intention. I would therefroe expect them not to include an APP which having been downloaded expects me to sign up an agreement before I can use it,

There is a frowned upon sales practice called 'Inertia Selling'. This relies on people not taking some action to avoid being charged for a service that they did not want.

Noone has said that Apple is happy for an APP to be called FREE which is designed to trap the innocent, unwary, or lazy into paying for

Try reading the description of an app BEFORE downloading it, then supposedly "innocent, unwary, or lazy" people like yourself would know exactly what they are downloading.

It's all there in black and white if you choose to use those eyes of yours and actually read something and take responsibility for your own actions for once.

The app itself is FREE. You did not pay one cent to download it, however as clearly stated in the app description (which you obviously did not bother to read) there is a charge for monthly or annual subscriptions.

You got a 14 day FREE TRIAL when you first downloaded the app. Free Trial means FREE.
