How can I add my NYC Department of Education email on my iPhone 4s?

Hi all,

I am trying to get my NYC Dept of Education email on my iPhone 4s. I have read many posts but it will not connect to the server.

When I added the account, I selected "Microsoft Exchange". I need to know what exactly to fill in in each of these fields:

Email: username@schools.nyc.gov

Server: ___________?

Domain: _________ ?

Username: username

Password: password

Description: Exchange

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

KJ

Asking the DOE help desk is a waste of time, they will not help you, I've tried. "We dont support that" is all you'll get, trust me.

There are some older posts here where I see that people were successful forwarding their DOE email to their iphones using the Microsoft Exchange settings. However I'm pretty sure they werent' talking about the 4S as I've tried their suggestions and it just isn't working.

Sooooo if anyone out there has figured this out, please post here so we can have the luxury of using our smartphones to do more work!!!!

If you cannot help the email server administrators to help you, then the only other thing I can think of is to get another DoE employee who has been able to hook the iPhone to the mail server to tell you the right settings.

The trick in getting tech support people who say, "We don't support Macs" or "We don't support iPhones" to help is not tell them why you need the information. Just ask them for the exchange settings for the email. I actually had a phone conversation with a support person where they asked the device I had, then told me they didn't support it. I explained that all I needed was a setting. No luck. So, I said, "If I told you I had a Windows computer and asked you for the setting, what would you tell me?" The guy immediately gave me the information (which was the same regardless of platform). Go figure.

Best of luck.

KJ, the NYC DOE shut off mobile activations on the exchange server in Fall 2011 due to inability to scale for the # of new activations. However, if you previously had your email account connected to an iPhone, Android Phone, or iPad, your account is already activated for mobile use.

The following information should work for MOBILE devices - so long as your account was on a mobile device prior to Fall 2011...

I am currently using the following information on my iPad and Android Phone:

Email: OUTLOOKID@schools.nyc.gov (What you entered is correct)

Server: mail.nycboe.net

Domain: central

Username: OUTLOOKID

Password: password

Mobile access is not supported by the Help Desk, etc. They only support the use of Centrally issued Blackberries. Also, the information above will not work for Mail, Outlook, etc. on a computer. Only principals and some central employees are authorized for access via desktop-based solutions. The rest of us are stuck with Outlook Web Access (with no easy way to download emails to stop getting over the limit notifications---a big frustration of mine).

Good luck!
