Get your drive repaired.
No offense...but, geez You're smart Csound1
It's not available for download so figure it out for yourself then.
At a time like this, wouldn't it be great to have a backup of your hard drive, so you could just restore preview from it in half a minute or so and go on about your business?
There are lots of good reasons to back up, and it's hard to fathom why so many people ignore them all, no matter how many times they are reminded.
My little nephew (last user of my mbp) must have accidentally drag the app to the bin. inadvertedly I emptied my bin and it was today 2 days later when I realised I binned PREVIEW
The main problem is my MATSHITA DVD burner doesn't work to re-install PREVIEW from the DVD installer.
That's why I am wondering if there is another way around re-installing PREVIEW in my mbp
OK, without a working optical drive clearly it will be a challenge to install anything.
Do you have another computer with an optical drive that works? You should be able to share its drive and install OS X.

I have another mac handy but it is a later OS Version. Will follow your link
THANKS for your help !!!
do you know preview is gone, and not just removed from the dock?
Nothing you wrote indicates either way.

Not well phrased, but nto bad advice. Being without an optical drive means you are in a fair amount of trouble if ( and when) you have drive corruption, disk failure, ro want to upgrade.
Ditto a comlte backup, hcih would have obviated this question.

I think that your son nephew merely removed the dock icon and not the application...
Go to the applications folder and look inside it, when you find preview drag it back to the dock.
You're welcome, but first make sure that Preview is not still hiding in your Applications folder.
With recent versions of OS X it is impossible to simply delete it that easily, but without knowing what version of OS X you are using I cannot be certain.
I see. I have a OS X 10.5.8. I have checked on my applications folder and the actual app is gone. I also tried to install another version of PREVIEW from 10.6.8 but it isn't possible to open it in my current version 10.5.8
Yes, that later version won't be compatible.
As long as you have your original OS X 10.5.x install DVD, and a computer to read it, that computer can share the drive. Your OS X 10.5.8 computer can then use the DVD as if it were physically installed in your computer.
