All my email accounts and passwords have been compromised. Is there an effective antivirus for my IMAC?
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)
ClamXav 2.2.4 or nothing since there are no viruses affecting OS X.
All my email accounts and passwords have been compromised. Is there an effective antivirus for my IMAC?
In logic these two statements are known as a non-sequitur.
If your passwords are no longer secure then change them.
My son has a 2 year old iMac and all his email accounts have been compromised. Today, I read a newspaper article that says there is an iMac virus that compromises all passwords. Yes a virus that attacks OS X---that "steals passwords and other personal information.
And newspapers lie also
There is no virus. It is a trojan which means you have to allow it to be install.
Inother words if you are infect with the trojan you shot yourself in the foot.

... all his email accounts have been compromised.
It is difficult to know what you mean by that, but I gather you believe something is amiss. Can you explain exactly what you have observed to lead you to that conclusion?
Newspapers love fear. So do TV and radio "news". Determining facts requires effort and thought, two characteristics often lacking in their respective readers, viewers, and listeners.
This is the reason I am asking exactly what your observations have been to cause you concern.
It can only do something if you have Java enabled; if you do, run software update and it will install the latest update which will protect you. The best course of action: simply turn off Java in your browser; I've had it turned off for some time and have not needed it except once.
If passwords have been compromised, it could be as simple as someone having hacked your email account. Change the passwords/open a new account/change your email address.
Here are several facts:
I am new at this support forum.
I thought I would be connecting with other friendly users---some novices like me and others that are more sophisticated about their MACs and other apple products.
I expected helpful, constructive comments.
I am not getting helpful comments.
Now the original problem----all his email accounts (gmail, hotmail, yahoo....etc) passwords were compromised and now he cannot get into his email accounts.
The article was from the Bloomberg News Service.
If you want to send more comments that don't help me figure out a solution----please don't.
Snide remarks will not get you any point especially when you stated your question in a most obtuse fashion.
Try to explain what you mean by "email accounts have been Compromised".

Why do you insist on resurrecting these long dead threads. You would think after a year of inactivity you would just leave them in peace.
And add such a profound post as that really top it off.
