I am trying to migrate the contents of my 10.4.11 Tiger to a new MacBook. It says I need to update the Migration Assistant on my Tiger. I have downloaded and installed this, http://support.apple.com/kb/DL713. IT seems to work smoothly, but the Migration Assistant on my Tiger is still 1.06, and I cannot get my two computers to connect to each other through the Assistant. What am I doing wrong?
Correct, the method that requires using MA on both Computers will not work with Tiger/10.4.x
If both of these have Firewire it can be done running only MA on the new Mac & the older one in Target mode...

Then in MA choode from another Disk or such wording.
but this does not work with MacOS 10.8.(2.). In this case the only way is to copy your content yourself from the older harddrive.
An not tested idea is, to migrate via an temporary user over an system between 10.4. and 10.8. But the question is if this makes sense. E.g. the email accounts are not compatible and some more things.
I have not tried to migrate 10.4 to 10.8, only 10.5 & 10.6, which worked, even PPC to Intel.
On Mail for instance, you'd want to Import from the older version in the new version of Mail.
