So there was no RAM at all in it? That makes it hard if you aren't starting out with something that is known to work.

One would hope to have a pair of 256 MB (each) DIMMs that shipped in the machine when new.

Assuming that the machine is NOT a 2005 model (early or late) then we can assume the OS X 10.3.4 disc is not the issue.

If the machine is a 2005 model, then the disc is NOT compatible.

Since you list the machine as an A1177, then that makes it a Late 2005 machine. The disc that you have is too early and is not compatible.

Those machines need 10.4.2 and later.

Well, likely you're better off with at least 10.4, but it isn't cheap, you need the Black Retail version.

See Tom's, (Texas Mac Man), great info on where/how to find/get Tiger...

japamac is always righ, ifwe don't agree, take his word for it. 🙂

By 10.4 I meant 10.4.3 Retail OSC Install Disc.

Yes, you'd use the c key or Option key on powerup to install it. I do think it would solve it.

No idea if it's worth it...

10.4.x, even 10.5.x isn't supported by Apple anymore.

G5s aren't noted for their reliability.

A newer or refurb may be a better deal & likely faster.
