You can try resetting it. On that iPod, I believe you press and hold down the Center and Menu buttons at the same time, until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

hold down the shutdown and home buttons when u see apple logo keep holding home button this will take u to DFU mode then u can restore it from there.

Your the only site I found with the addition about 4th Generation or newer, that was extremely helpful. I’m a technology skeptic and bad with keeping receipts. mine used to do this all the time, all you do is hold down the menu button and the middle button down until the apple logo comes up 🙂
Tried that and it reset. Now am going to try to connect it to itunes again.
Hi same thing happened to my ipod.
Hold the turn off button at the top of the ipod and the home button at the same time until
you see a apple symbol then release.
If that does not work then ring your local apple store.
