My Power Macintosh 7500/100 can't find my Personal Laserwriter 320 printer, and it's not there in the Chooser.  Any ideas as to what I can try?

Has it worked before? Do you have the software CD that came with the printer? You are probably missing a driver.

According to the spec sheets I could find (MacTracker), your PM 7500 has an ethernet connection, and the printer has a LocalTalk connection.

If this is the case, you are probably using something like an AsantéTalk bridge to connect the printer to the Mac. The AsantéTalk bridge device connects via LocalTalk to the printer, and provides an ethernet connection which can then be used to connect to the Mac.

Sometimes devices like an AsantéTalk can lose their 'handshake' with the network. If this happens, the solution is to reset it. To do that:

With the printer and the Mac both on and warmed up, pull the power to the AsantéTalk. Wait about a minute. Then plug its power back in. Wait another minute or so, then give it a try.

You may also need to restart the Mac at that point in order to re-enable the ethernet bus.

Tom - thanks for replying.  It's a bit embarrassing to say this, but the problem turned out to be a cable that wasn't plugged in properly.  Sorry for taking up your time.  Jo
