I know this is a third world problem
My iMessage is constantly showing myself as my roommate in the profile picture box to the right of the message.
I have no idea why - I didn't select it to do this - and I can't seem to find a way to change this.
Either way it's very irritating - and a source of constant humiliation from my friends "I see your bald now"

To change the picture go to Settings then Mail, Contacts, Calendars
In the contacts section set My Info to your contact info
This is the photo you have with your contact info in the Contacts app.
I don't believe this photo is sent with your iMessages. The photo recipients see is the photo they have chosen for your contact info in their Contacts app.

I checked but I show up with my real face in address book.
Still I am a green cactus tree in 'Messages'.
I believe, as you said, that others will see me as per their address book image, still I agree with Undergalactic when he says it's anoying.
I don't even like cacti!
Anyone knows a way to sort of 'force' a refresh of that profile picture?

My iMessage displays my mother as my profile picture. I've looked into it and successfully changed who my addressbook thought I was, yet my iMessage picture remains constant with no easy fix.
Open "Messages", from the MenuBar click on the "Messages", in that drop-down menu you'll find "Change My Picture..."
I couldn't change the profile picture from the "Contacts".

Is this drop down menu in the ipad settings or in messeges. Because i can not find it in either. Right now it shows my picture as a friend of mine. Not even sure where the pic came from. I am using software 5.1.1
