Im following this guide http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 and i can't access the folder C:\Program Files\iPod i get an error telling me I have unsufficeient permissions, so i give myself full access, which lets me access the folder. I then try to delete the folder and i get error saying "You need permission to perform this action."

have you tried giving permissions to all users
sometimes it could be an error with a specific user account that may cause that error to come up
"Users (Joe-PC\Users)" and "Administrators(Joe-PC\Administrators)" both had full access to begin with.
iTunes needs both your account (or everyone) and SYSTEM to have full access to the file and folders it works with. If for some reason Windows won't let you change permissions use an Administrator account and if necessary take ownership of the folder first. Once you are certain the parent folder has the correct permissions you can replace permissions on all child objects.

Folder Properties > Security > Advanced > Replace...
Actually I've only just looked up your original kb reference. Windows can't delete the folder if there is an active executable or library file running from within it. I suspect you simply need to shut down the iPod Service from the services control panel. Start > Run > Services.msc

Thanks stopping the service worked.
It was replace permissions, and if that doesn't work you replace the owner first, then replace permissions...
Not that it mattered in the end. 🙂
