How can I import a functional Excel Spreadsheet into Numbers, preserving the editability and functionality?

Here are thre ways. Pick one.

  1. Right click on the file, choose Open with... Numbers.
  2. Drag the file's icon onto the Numbers icon on the Dock
  3. Launch Numbers, then go File > Open. Navigate to and choose the file. Click Open.

Numbers will convert the Excel file to a Numbers document, and will present warnings regarding any Excel features that are not supported in Numbers.

The problem is that any excel that I import onto my IPad and into numbers appears just fine, but I can't edit the spreadsheet(alter it, add to it, change it's appearance), this is a real problem....and files that I import from my IPad to Excel are distorted and cannot be altered either....this must be a real problem in the business world. 😟

Apple took care to deliver a technote describing differences between a Numbers doc displayed in OS X and the same displayed in iOS.
