What to do so that iTunes on my iMac shows apple tv as a device ?

if you have a black apple TV, it only shows as a device when connected to the computer with a micro USB cable but this is for restoring the device only. You cannot store content on the Apple TV. It is a device to which you can stream (airplay)... thus, it does not show up in devices...
My Apple tv is the black one.
Using my iPad 2, I rented THE HELP in HD. I tried to see it and received the message "Your apple tv is not authorized to play this content.
I have already tried unplugging, authorizing again and whatever the community on the subject says but in vain.
I can play trailers, I can play films downloaded with Pirate Bay but not this rented one.
I think the problem is that somehow, iTunes does not recognize, and so does not authorize, my Apple TV.
Please Help me to see THE HELP!!!
