Just disable Java applets in your web browser.
In Safari, go to Safari > Preferences > Security and uncheck "Java". Keep "Javascript" on. That is different.

I ran into a couple of Leopard infections on Intel Macs. PPC Macs are currently immune to this infection.
Oracle/Sun did will not patch Java 1.5.0 and below, so Apple couldn't do so even if it wanted to. As I'm sure you know Apple stopped all support to Tiger in Sep 2009 and Leopard in Jun 2011. Time to start shopping...
