Apr 9, 2012 12:45 AM in response to confuseddarbyby FrenchToast,Depending on the size of your iMovie project, you need a lot of free space on your hard drive to store it as buffer (data that needs additional processing), not just as saving (data fully processed). Check how much free space is available on your hard drive (open a Finder window, the empty space is usually displayed at the bottom of the window); if there isn't enough, connect a USB or Firewire drive to your Mac and point iMovie to it to store your iMovie final project. This will free the empty space on your internal hard drive for buffering only.
How much RAM do you have on your machine (Click on the Apple in the top left corner of your screen, then on "About this Mac")
