My IMAP (5.2) Lion mail account set to download "Manually."
Yet, I'm interrupted all day long by random mail arrivals. This is a concentration-killer.
I'd dearly appreciate knowing a way to change this unstoppable home-invasion style mail aacquisition

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)
Mail > Preference > Accounts > Advanced
Uncheck the box "Include when automatically checking for new mail".
Hope it works. Keep a note of the change made, if it has to be reversed.

I tried it and when I tested, it still allowed the instant donloading of arriving mail.

Out of interest, I also set my imap to download manually. And after sending a test mail to myself, it also automatically came into my inbox and gave me the famliar PING.
I suppose, having imap and selecting download manually, sort of defeats some of the whole point in having the benefits of imap 😝
