Can't see my old FCP 5.4 project with new FCP X

I have my old tower and my new tower. I have FCP X. I can't see the old desktop on my new computer.

How do I open my old FCP project with my new FCP x?

I understand your frustration, but 5.1.4 is a very old version of FCP.

FCP X is a fantastic application which makes legacy FCP look positively prehistoric but the one thing it can't do is read old FCP projects.

If you have access to FCP 7 (or even 6) - (through a friend, maybe) there's a very inexpensive App available in the AppStore called 7toX. This little app will convert FCP 7 (and FCP 6) projects to FCP X.

Jennifer, if you don't have any luck with using 7toX to convert FCP 5.1.4 projects, try emailing me one of your projects (either the actual project file, or if you could export it as XML that might be a smaller file).

I will then try to get it into FCP 7, and from there I can export it to FCP X - and hopefully send it back to you.

My email address is on my profile.

(Just send the project file or the XML - I don't need any media).
