My Mac Book Pro just stopped booting up. there is power getting to the unit but no screen comes on and no control. I have had no problem on the system, but it is a few years old now, 4, I think. Anyone out there had something like this happen?

My Mac Book Pro just stopped accepting commands, the screen is freezing on a black screen and the keys have no bearing on the situation. The only way I can get it to stop is pull the battery out. It has been acting funny lately, slow mostly, but maybe there's been other's who have experienced the same thing. Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks Richard

Thanks for getting in touch, my attempts to get the unit to chime were nil, but I brought it to a dealer and it did chime, but still no screen. They are authorized Apple tech folks and putting it through some tests today, I hope to know more soon. PS: the note above was very helpful pointing out a failed graphics card as an issue that has been recognized with Apple and they are prepared to replace it even if your warranty has worn out. I might be in that group, Thanks again,
Richard
