Why does Mail change the size of attachments

I have been trying to send som JPEG files to a client. These files are no more than 450 kb. They were made in Adobe Illustrator CS5. The file sizes on my Mac are below 450 kb, yet when I attach them to an e-mail the size plummets to 31.3 kb, making them totally unusable for my client. I do not see any setting in Mail that would affect the file size of an attachment. I've attached files before with no problem. I do not know if this is because it's a JPEG. Unfortunately JPEG is the file format that they need. So to get arounfd this I've uploaded them to my server... but it would be so much easier to just be able to attach them to an e-mail.

Does anyone have a reason why this is happening?

After you attach the jpeg, look in the bottom right corner of the message window and make sure that "Actual Size" is selected.

Are you using Apple Mail? If so, when you attach the picture file to the email message, look in the lower right of the mail message window and there is a pop up window that lets you specify the size of the pciture file attachment. Make sure it is selected on actual size, not the "small" setting.

Thanks. I was tearing my hair out over this.

It's a handy tool, being able to select the attachment image size. Hey it's very good for sure, but not so obvious.

Can't Apple put it on a more obvious place.

Once I found it, EUREKA.

I am using Apple Mail 4.6(1085) and can find no pop up window in the lower right of the message window. All that is there is a grabber to resize the window.

Any suggestions?

SOLVED THE PROBLEM

The pop up doesn't appear in "send again" it does appear in "new message"

Steve626 is onto it. Follw his directions.

Load the image into the message then look for the "Image Size" Bottom right hand corner.

Works for me on my Mail Version 4.6 (1085).
