Hitachi XL3000 Hard Drive not mounting

I have a new iMac and Hitachi XL3000 (3TB) hard drive connected to it via USB. When I startup the computer the hard drive is not automatically mounting like other drives I've used in the past. The drive powers up with it gets a signal via the USB cable but doesn't mount. I've gotten nowhere searching the Hitachi site for answers. So perhaps I'll have better luck with the Mac Gurus.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3), 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 with 12GB RAM

Hi,

I don't suppose you've had any luck with this?

I have the same drive on my iMac and have the same issues where it won't spin up after my iMac has gone to sleep and I've woken it up.

Have to resort to unplugging the drive and re-plugging it in. most infuriating.
