I don't know that anyone can answer that. Your question really is focused on the DVD drive, and there are many variables that determine it's life. If you're concerned about it, and your system is less than a year old, buy Applecare, which will extend the hardware warranty for another 2 years.

It's also going to take an eternity to burn that many disks. You indicated it's for a church fund raiser, so I'd imagine you don't want to spend too much, but I know most FedEx stores offer disk duplicating services. They don't quote any prices on their site, so you'll need to give them a call:

I have burned only around 100 dvds total in IDVD, and I burnt out my drive...

Using Mac Pros we typically can burn around 1000 discs before the optical drive gives up.
About $30 and 2 min. of time and we install a replacement optical drive in the Mac Pro.
