Can I make Photoshop 7.0.1 work with OS X 10.5.8?

I ordered a Hitachi 1.0TB Ultrastar Hard Disk Drive from OWC for the G5.

Also, I was reading on the OWC site about cloning. They said that the clone will have everything including any corrupted files and old, useless files as well. I hadn't thought about that. My wife had all kinds of junk in there and I did all of the routine maintenance, updates and such when I was here in the winter. That eMac drive is probably pretty cluttered. I think I'd rather try the clone as plan B and try to find a Tiger disk for a clean install. There are several on my watch list which may go for a reasonable price.

I was looking at the Tiger 10.4 disks on eBay and I noticed there are different numbers on some of them, some have 2Z691-5811-A, some have MA453Z/A and one ended in 5305-A, I couldn't see the whole number on the last one. I'm left wondering what the differences are, some sellers won't accept returns. Any idea about that?

Yes. After insalling PS 7.0, I went to the Adobe site and installed the 7.0.1 update and then the 7.0.1 G5 update. I got the same results, I shut down and restarted and still the same. I checked all of that before buying the G5 but I could not find anything about PS 7 not working in OS 10.5.8. Seems logical to me if it works with a G5 it should work with the maximum OS for a G5, otherwise it would likely say something about that somewhere.

Well, thanks BDAqua, you’ve found what I needed to know. I wondered if that classic environment would have any effect on the running of PS7 when it passed by during the installation, but there was nothing to be found about that from Apple or Adobe, at least I didn’t find it.

My plan B is to put in a second drive and install Tiger on it. I’m told I can do this because the firmware is ROM and the 2003 G5 came with OS 10.2. I want the classic environment anyway, but I was hopeful I could use PS7 in 10.5.8 without spending more right now. I have two copies of Tiger, one for my 2002 MBP and the other for my old eMac, not sure of the year but it was the last eMac Apple made. I think these are machine specific and probably won’t play nice with my Power Mac. So my next challenge is to find a copy that will work well on the Power Mac. There are a bunch of them on eBay but the trick is to find a good one and the right one. Any thoughts on that? I am not sure what I should be looking for in the right Tiger and most of them say no returns which makes it a bit of a crap shoot if I don't know exactly for what I am looking.

I still have the eMac. My wife used it until last June when I bought her a new 21.5“ iMac. The eMac was starting to get distortion on the screen, broken lines of color and such. I inquired about repair and was told it would likely be expensive and parts might be hard to find. Not sure what to do with it now. She loves the iMac with 10.6.8.

Thanks for the advice on the Tiger Install Disk. I didn’t know about the grey and black difference. So I should be ok if I get a black disk and I will watch for 2Z691-5811-A as well.

I bought a new MBP in 2009. It is a late 2008 top-of-the-line with Leopard installed and it came with an SL disk which I installed after about a week. So I don’t have much experience with 10.5. My previous MBP was the last titanium model, 2002, with Tiger installed. I used it for 7 years and liked it. Our eMac also had Tiger on it. I liked SL when I had it on my MBP. Unfortunately I installed Lion last summer and have regretted it since.

I bought a 2010 refurb 27” i7 iMac from Apple about a month ago. I wanted SL and I hated to pass up the 2011 technology to get it, but Lion is unacceptable for a workstation, at least for me. I will eventually get new Adobe software for it and it will be my primary work computer. The G5 will go to my summer home. I have a 2002 23“ Cinema Display HD with an ADC connector which, along with the Adobe 7.0 software is the reason I bought the 2003 G5. I will add a second 7200 RPM drive for Tiger and max out the RAM to 8 GBs which should make it about twice as fast as my old MBP G4.

Even though the eMac's 10.4 is from a grey disk? I have a firewire and have used Target Disk Mode in the past between the eMac and my old MBP. The eMac should start, I think. One thing I don't know is the problem with the eMac -- whether it is a hardware or a software problem. You think that would work on the G5, though, huh?
