Magic Trackpad stopped working in the last couple of days

Since I updated my software and downloaded the new Java (not saying that's what did it) I haven't been able to make my magic trackpad work after replacing the batteries. I bought some brand new alkalines and even tested them to make sure they are good. I tried turning it off and on, I rebooted my mac several times, I turned off bluetooth and turned it back on, I unpaired the device and tried to pair it again but that fails. I followed the instructions in the user manual for pairing the device. I even went and bought a brand new magic trackpad thinking that mine must be broken somehow. Even the brand new one does not work. What is going on here? I tried deleting the com.apple.bluetooth.plist file and emptying the trash, rebooting the mac and then turning on the trackpad waiting and waiting and it never starts working. I've been starting to have problems with my wireless keyboard now not working most of the time when I start up my mac. I have to take out the batteries and then put them back in and turn on the keyboard and wait...wait...wait... and eventually it will start working. I love my magic trackpad and wish I could use it again but this is driving me nuts. I'm a Windows Domain administrator at work and and Apple Certified Helpdesk Specialist, by the way. I should know how to do these things right. I've never had problems with this device in the last year that I've owned it. It just suddenly stopped working. I think it might be something that came down in the last software update.

How long is the wait for? It's not common that I've had to wait myself over a minute, and do more than one attempt when I'm in a lab full of other computers.

BTW, if you have a usb keyboard plugged in, this can add to your troubles when trying to pair a wireless.

Thanks for the tip about the USB keyboard. I was using a USB mouse because i couldn't get the trackpad working, then had problems with the keyboard so I had plugged in my Apple aluminum USB keyboard. Once I disconnected those and shut down completely (not just reboot) and brought it back up everything started working perfectly again. I think the keyboard had something to do with it, also possibly that I was using my macbook pro in lid closed operation with an external monitor so I wasn't shutting all the way down like I probably should have. I have a 12south book arc that my macbook stands in behind my monitor and I was lazy and didn't want to unplug everything and take it out just so I could power it on with the switch.
