I recently got a new replacement iPad 2.
I updated to iOS 5.1 on Sunday (8.4.12) night, managed to use it problem free whole of Monday (9.4.12).
This morning (10.4.12), I turned on an app (We Rule Deluxe) and found that I couldn't load my game.
I switched the iPad off, tried turning it on, and voila — I now have an R2199 (app. USD 716) paperweight.
Is anyone having the same problems?

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank then power ON again in the normal way.] It is absolutely safe.

Didn't solve it either.
It was stuck @ the stupid black apple screen for approximately 5 minutes when I realised I'd been bricked. 😮
Then when I resetted it again (without turning it back on so that it wouldn't drain the battery), that confounded screen reappeared again and again no matter how many times I tried turning it off.
I'm trying to restore the iPad from iTunes now, but tho program refuses to let me restore the Pad till I've redownloaded iOS 5.1 & updated my iPad.
So continue with the process - install iOS 5.1 and restore from most recent backup.
