The ipod "ipod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1602)

After trying to update ipod, during the phase where I had to back-up the ipod, an error message popped up (I can't remember what it said). Now, the ipod is just stuck on the "plugin to itunes" icon. Itunes and my computer can't recognize my ipod anymore. I have tried putting it into DFU mode and my computer detects my ipod and begins installing the drivers. On my first attempt, the drivers installation failed, so I reinstalled itunes and quicktime. Then after putting it into DFU mode again, it begins installing the drivers, but this time it was successful. Now I had the option to 'restore' my ipod so I did what I could. However, when I was installing it, 2 more drivers had to be installed and they were successful, however, I get this error message:

Any help would be greatly appreciate. Thanks very much for your time.

Error 1600, 1601, 1602: Try the following steps to resolve this error:

  1. Ensure proper USB isolation troubleshooting has been performed, and test with a known-good cable.
  2. Follow the steps listed for Error 1604.
  3. This error may be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.

Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.

If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
  2. Restore and wait for error 1604.
  3. When prompted, click OK.
  4. Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
  5. iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
  6. Try to restore again.

If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

I won't have access to another computer until tomorrow. But I'd like to also add this in: Whenever I do this restore and it fails, I get a file in my recycle bin: iPod4,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw

It's 777 MB and I have tried restoring the file and restoring the ipod but the same error keeps appearing and it always ends up in the recycle bin again.

Hi - this happened to me over the weekend - received the USB symbol, with the arrow to the itunes icon. Just got home, connected to my computer. Said, I needed to restore, I said yes (against my better judgement) - say's it could not restore, error 2009. I can only view my "recently" purchased music - are my playlist's gone now, or is there a way to access them?
