Multiple IDs on One iPad

Sorry for any duplication, but my search results have not come up with my particular scenario.

I have two Apple IDs - one personal that is used on my iPhone and one work ID used on my iPad. I have made many app purchases under my personal ID (gisele@personal.com) that I want to be able to use on my iPad (gisele@work.com).

How do I get the app purchases ONLY onto my iPad? I am not interested in syncing mail, calendars, music, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Go to Settings>Store>Apple ID. You can sign in and out of your iD's in there. You can use multiple ID's on one iDevice - many people do.

What Rudegar means is that it becomes a pain remembering which ID you are currently using and that you have to always update your apps using the ID that purchased them - so you have to keep switching back and forth signing in and out of your accounts on the iPad and in iTunes if you sync with iTunes.

^this sounds like what I want to do. I know how to find/change the Apple ID but am afraid of syncing and losing data/apps. I'm fine with having to be logged into the right ID in order to update...but I want to avoid having to pay for the same apps more than once in order to use them on multiple devices.

Aside from changing the ID as noted above, what other settings do I need to change...or what prompts during syncing to make sure I don't delete things?

Thanks for the help!

You can do this if you want to be sure about what you are syncing. Turn off auto syncing in iTunes.

Launch iTunes and got to Edit>Preferences>Devices>Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from automatically syncing - check that box at the bottom. Click OK. Quit iTunes.

Now when you connect the iPad to the computer, iTunes will not sync until you initiate it. You can click on the iPad name on the left side under devices in order to select the iPad and then click on all of the various tabs within iTunes and select the unique content that you want to sync from that ID.

Now to be clear - you cannot have one app and use it with two different ID's so that you can have two sets of app data associated with that one app. For instance, if you bought Pages the Apple word processing app with both ID's - you cannot have two sets of files each associated with each unique ID. All of the data and files have to be consolidated into the one app backup.

However, there are other users that use two different ID's on the iPad. I really think that the only issue is to make sure that you use the correct ID when you sync and update apps. It's not like you are using two iPads with one ID and you want to have a different sync configuration on each device. You have one iPad using two ID's, so you do want all of the apps to sync every time. If all of your apps do not sync each time - you will lose the data associated with the other ID.

Read this discussion in which I participated as well, but read the comments from Dah*veed about merging two ID's into one iTunes library.

So, I tried this an am still having trouble.

I'd appreciate it if somebody could give me a step-by-step guide.

Right now my work ID (gisele@work.com) is synced to my iPad. I sync using my Mac.

My personal ID (gisele@personal.com) is synced to my phone. I sync on my PC.

I want to get my PERSONAL purchased apps onto my iPad.

Do I sync on the Mac, on the PC or it doesn't matter? I tried going into my Mac and logging out of iTunes from my gisele@work acount, and switched to my gisele@personal account. I did the same under settings of my iPad. I turned off auto sync, then attached my iPad to my Mac and tried to sync. No change.

Should I be taking my iPad to my PC and syncing?

I need help with exact steps (in order).

Thanks in advance.

If the apps on the PC were purchased with the ID - "gisele@personal.com" - and those apps are in your iTunes library on the PC - you need to sign into the "gisele@personal.com" ID on the iPad - and then sync those apps from the PC. You have to select the apps to sync as I described above.

The Sync Apps heading must have a checkmark in the box and all of the apps that you want to sync must have checkmarks as well like my window in iTunes shows you here.
