Unable to update through Software Update

Just got off the phone with them. Tech stated it was a server side issue. (He actually didn't know what was going on and was reading me the scripted answer for now.) He did confirm this started last evening and it only effects Mountain Lion. I was told to wait. There's currently no fix for it and that it will be fixed on the server side, not on our Macs. Not the answer I wanted to hear and I'm sure no one else wanted to hear that either. Sorry I couldn't help more guys and gals. :-(

After switching to Google's DNS......8.8.8.8 or 8.8.8.4

I see the update.

I didn't download it though....to test. I switched back to my Comcast DNS. The MAS caches and sees the update, but can't download it.

Ouch! This looks like something in 10.8.1 installations modified / damaged the software update configuration with a wrong destination URL. Hence software update cannot be used to fix the bug... - Everyone will need to download and apply the fix through a special updated procedure once a fix is officially provided...

its working, just click pass the error and retried.

It wass Apple's back end issue.

I didnt update any DNS on my system at all.

I too am having a similar problem, but need some more information to fix it the same way you did Bisteck.
Any chance you could give us some more information?

I've got this same issue. Started today, no luck with a fix yet. Mountain Lion 10.8.1, retina macbook pro.

I changed the name of /var/folders then reboot. But my iMac still have same error show up - The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1100.) .

This seems be caused by today's moutain lion update.

Even after closing all apps and restarting, I'm also getting: "The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1100.)"

This issue started today "An error has occurred - The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1100.)" when opening Mac App Store on my Mac Pro Late 2008 running Mountain Lion 10.8.1

My 10.8.1 Mac Mini has this error since a couple of hours and I can't update. I just launched software update on my 10.7.4 MacBook and iTunes 10.7 got updated as one would expect. - Therefore, I don't believe the explanation of the high download demand; looking into this thread, everyone having the issue is on mountain lion

According to the Mac Developer Library, NSURLErrorDomain error -1100 is a URL Loading System Error Code that translates "file does not exist." Here's the reference page, the error code is about half-way down the page:

I have the same problem. How do we fix this?

I updated to mountain lion and a week later somehow it changed my mac address on laptop. Does anybody know why it did this? The only way I found out was because of schools wi-fi kicked me off.
