Dropped my iPhone in water, the microphone and speaker are muffled, tips?

It's soaking in rice at the moment. The speaker works as long as it isn't turned up to the highest option, then it becomes crackly. The microphone works, but you have to talk softly or be far away for the sound to be unmuffled. Headphones work perfectly. I know Apple doesn't cover water damage, so what can I do to save my phone?

Turn it off. Do NOT attempt to turn it on. You could damage it worse than it is already.

Leave it in a bag of uncooked rice or silica gel for a week. Do NOT apply heat to it, just let it sit.

If it still acts up, get out your credit card and take it, and the damaged phone to your local Apple Store. An out of warranty replacement is US$199 if you did not purchase AppleCare+
