My iPod will not connect with my Windows laptop, it keeps saying device not found, error 45. How do I fix this?

Everytime I connect my iPod to my Windows laptop, it tells me, unknown device detected and to reconnect. I reconnect it in many ways everytime, and then it tells me (error 45) and, i looked it up. It says something about the driver connection not being updated and such and such. I am not technilogically litterate in many ways.. but anything can help me! I just want to connect my iPod and get music, and apps, and ect.. I'm about to give up and buy a new one. But i'd hate to waste this iPod. Any help?
