Buy a new one.
It sounds like you have had a partial failure of your pendrive.
Flash drive do have a limited life expectancy.

this is the second time
when i had a 4gb pendrive , n i erased it now its showing 200mb max space
Q: when i erase a pendrive , how should i do it ?
should i take option of mac journalised or mac ms fat option inorder for it to work on windows n mac also
Fat for use on both.
Try formatting it on a PC.
then also it shows only 2 gb out 16gb
There was some max size for fat16. 2gig max seems familiar to me.
Log in disk utility. It should tell you what the size of the 'drive' is.
The terminal application will give detailed information that you can copy & paste to this thread.
Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
mac $ diskutil list
... clipped ...
/dev/disk2
#: type name size identifier
0: FDisk_partition_scheme *3.8 GB disk2
1: Apple_HFS Recover 3.8 GB disk2s1
wait for the $ then type diskutil list then press enter.
in my case, I have a '4gig' flash drive listed. 3.8gb is close enough to 4.gig.
mac $ df

/dev/disk1s16 569927296 135962488 433452808 24% /

another view of my 4gig flash drive is /dev/disk2s1

Post the results fo diskutil list & df here. Thanks.

Try disk utility again. Try formatting again. Did you create multiple partitions?
Be sure to partition the correct dirve. See what disk utility says about the size.
What version of Mac OS are you running?

Good point, FAT32 would be needed.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc938432.aspx -
Table 3.10 FAT16 Size Limits
Description | Limit |
---|---|
Maximum file size | 2^32 - 1 bytes |
Maximum volume size | 4 GB |
Files per volume | 2^16 |
Same web site says max. volume size for FAT32 is 32GB
How are you formatting this? I thought Tiger Disk Utility only formatted FAT ("MS-DOS") to FAT32.
