My address book won't let me add birthdays, why?

So I recently updated to Mac OS X Lion and I noticed that my address book won't let me add anyone's birthday like it did before when I had snow leopard. There is a field for it in my address book but whenever I type in the date like "April 15th, 1993" when I click out of the birthday field it erases and will not save the date! I have no idea why it is doing this and it's driving me crazy because I want my birthdays from my address book to show up on my calander because I have them synched. Any ideas on why this isn't working? Any help is much appreciated!

I attached a picture of what my address book looks like. I noticed that the birthday field doesn't have up and down arrows like the rest of the fields do, why is that?

Greetings,

Try:

  1. Quit all open Applications
  2. Go to Apple > System Preferences > iCloud > Sign Out (if you are using it)
  3. SafeBoot your computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
  4. While in SafeBoot remove the following to the trash:
    • Macintosh HD > Library > Caches (contents of this folder, not the folder itself)
    • Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.AddressBook (remove any and all files with this in the title)
    • Home > Library > Preferences > ByHost > com.apple.AddressBook (remove any and all files with this in the title)
    • Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.AddressBook (remove any and all files with this in the title)

NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard. You will see "Library" in the menu.

  5. Restart the computer normally to take yourself out of SafeBoot
  6. Open the Address Book -- See if you can use the Birthday field now.

Assuming the field works and you use iCloud Go to Apple > System Preferences > iCloud > Sign In

If the same issue occurs reply back.

Hope that helps!
