Q: iCal on iPad 2 crashes when selecting March 2013

Hi,

I have got a very strange problem with iCal on my iPad 2 Wi-Fi. When selecting March 2013 it instantly crashes iCal, after which I am returned to the springboard. When relaunching iCal it starts with either February 2013 or April 2013 selected. The crashing does not occur in 2012 or 2014, so March 2013 is the only occurance of the crashing found so far.

What have I tried to do to solve the problem:

  • Restart iPad.
  • Force Quit iCal and all other applications.
  • Restart iPad again.

Problem still occured.

  • Disable Calendar syncing from my Google Account.

Problem was gone, iCal was completely empty and working fine.

  • Enable Calendar syncing, but uncheck all calendars in iCal resulting in empty calendar rendered on screen.

Problem still gone.

  • Enabling a single calendar.

Crashing occured again.

My conclusion was that one of my appointments in Google Calendar must contain something that was making iCal crash. However, of the 5 calendars I am syncing with the iPad none of them could be shown without iCal crashing in March 2013. Even public calendars I am subscribed to like official holidays make iCal crash. If something is indeed wrong with an appointment, I would have expected to be able to display the other 4 calendars without problems.

I am syncing the exact same calendars with my iPhone 4 and my iMac, and on both devices no crashing occurs.

Is there anything I can do to extract some more information from my iPad to find out exactly why iCal is crashing?

iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iOS 5.1

Probably because these African countries don't change to DST on April 1st....

I had someone's birthday on the 1st of April, removed it and hey presto, it's working again. :)

So yeah, if you have any evens on the 1st of April removing them seems to work, not sure if changing to a timed event instead of an all day event will help as I just removed it.

Disabling DST support by selecting wrong country is not really a fix so let's not give Apple that excuse. Hope all the people here left feedback directly with Apple.

Hi all, i bookmarked the calendar www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/caldata/AustrianHolidays.ics and iCal crashes when trying to display March 2013 with this calendar activated. As I can not change a bookmarked calendar and as I don't want to change the DST until April 2013. There is only thing Apple can do: fix the bug.

I could not agree more! But to make life a little easier until we get a fix. . . . . . .

Deleting 'all day' events for 01/04/2103 solved my problem of my iPad2 crashing in 'monthly' mode when I selected March 2013. It was not happening on my iPhone 5 nor my Macbook Pro.

I'm having the same issue. I surprised to see that Apple still hasn't supplied a fix! It's probably already been said, but I have disabled the calendar that has entries on 1st April, this seems to work! Not ideal!

We have reached January 15, 2013! When will apple do something to solve the issue??? Do customers have to become apple technicians now?

    Hi all,

I know it is not Apple, but as well as talking to thier techies I have raised this issue wiith MACFORMAT who have a close connection with Apple and also have a large audience. Hopefully they will be able to find out what Apple intend doing about it.

How frustrating, just had to delete my all day appointment on April 1st to get March to appear and not crash! How can Apple not have fixed this already!!

    Same problem here.

An iPad3 with timezone Central Europe (Copenhagen)

Any all day event on 1st of april and the calendar crashes.

And many of us have subscribed to holiday calendars so naturally Easter day is there as an all day event.

We must be at least hundred of thousands of iPad owners with this problem.

I am shocked to see that this issue has been known by Apple since at least September last year and they just don't give a darn about their users. IOS 6.0 and 6.0.1 has passed and this easy to fix bug just remains.

This is not the first issue I have lately. I used to buy every i-device Apple made. I skipped iPhone4s, iPhone5, iPad4, and mini iPad. You guess why Apple! Because you keep on letting me down!!!

Some say Apple do not read these forums! Naturally they do! Noone sets up a forum under the apple.com domain and ignore it. Their marketing people analyse everything here. They just stay silent

So read this Apple. Unsatisfied customer no longer recommending your products to friends! No longer buying all your new devices! Because quality is decreasing and because I sincerely don't think you care any longer

Please please report using Feedback section of Apple website. Apple haven't got time to read all the background noise on a consumer forum, but the do read feedback submitted through the proper channels.
