Q: iCal on iPad 2 crashes when selecting March 2013

Hi,

I have got a very strange problem with iCal on my iPad 2 Wi-Fi. When selecting March 2013 it instantly crashes iCal, after which I am returned to the springboard. When relaunching iCal it starts with either February 2013 or April 2013 selected. The crashing does not occur in 2012 or 2014, so March 2013 is the only occurance of the crashing found so far.

What have I tried to do to solve the problem:

  • Restart iPad.
  • Force Quit iCal and all other applications.
  • Restart iPad again.

Problem still occured.

  • Disable Calendar syncing from my Google Account.

Problem was gone, iCal was completely empty and working fine.

  • Enable Calendar syncing, but uncheck all calendars in iCal resulting in empty calendar rendered on screen.

Problem still gone.

  • Enabling a single calendar.

Crashing occured again.

My conclusion was that one of my appointments in Google Calendar must contain something that was making iCal crash. However, of the 5 calendars I am syncing with the iPad none of them could be shown without iCal crashing in March 2013. Even public calendars I am subscribed to like official holidays make iCal crash. If something is indeed wrong with an appointment, I would have expected to be able to display the other 4 calendars without problems.

I am syncing the exact same calendars with my iPhone 4 and my iMac, and on both devices no crashing occurs.

Is there anything I can do to extract some more information from my iPad to find out exactly why iCal is crashing?

I just spoke with Apple Care, they know all about it and expect an update very soon to resolve. Meanwhile I'm using Fantastical app to get around it.

From other threads it seems like there is a resolution.

Delete any all day events on the 1st of April, this is causing an issue with time adjustments from Easter clock changes.

My calendar is working again after this fix.

    Seriously, still no fix??

This is quiet disappointing and generates quite a bit of frustration. It's just two months left and every time I try to plan something I end up cursing Apple.

    *sigh* ):

    Hi,

I have the same problem here except that I only use Apple Calendars (no external calendars like Google).

After all my testing I suppose that the problem is not linked to the content of a particular calendar, but to the fact that a calendar is enabled.

Apple : march is coming fast, we need a fix

Apple are not here, only fellow users.

If you don't sync your calendar from anywhere then try going into list view, go to 1st April and change any 'all day' events to times e.g. change Easter Monday to start at something like 4am

Thanks everyone for finding the April 1 issue, but it's not acceptable or indeed possible to adjust the length of automatic events from the contacts birthdays calendar.

Need a fix Apple thank you.

Yes I am another user with this prob.  Latest iPad.  I can confirm that it's an April fool, any all day event on that date crashes it. I have had to unsubscribe to my UK holidays and DE Holidays as there are all day events on 1/4.

Ridiculous, can you imagine how may less tenacious people there are that cannot use March??????

Count me with that same problem. Disabling calendars with one day event enables but ... this is not really a workaround...

This isn't a hope for a wish, this is a must.

An item sold as work tool that doesn't work is a joke.  Can you imagine the stink if all Windows laptop calendars stopped working in March?

    Come on Apple, Fix, Now.

I'm using a free app called CalenMob until this bug is fixed.

    It's working well so far.

I think i have a solution to bypass the bug

If you have something planned on the 1st day of april,

You have to make the appointment last an hour instead of the whole day.

I had to work the whole day, the 1st of april but my schedule has changed.

After i changed the time in ical i could acces march again....

It worked for me so i think it's worth a shot

    Hope i helped you guys!!!

Reading further on, its true, the 1st April 2013 is an issue, my birthday is on that day and there are no other planned events so I moved my birthday to the 2nd Aptil and its all fine, my DoB is in my contact so it automatically enters in iCal but on this occasion its part of the problem.

So in short, make sure 1st April 2013 is clear until after March, all said I'm also a little dissapointed that Apple have not fixed it yet.

    Good luck.
