If I purchase a replacement Li-ion battery for a PowerBook G4, what should I expect the % capacity to be after the initial conditioning? Should you expect a different value with a 3rd Party Battery opposed to an Apple Battery? I need a new Battery, soon, and I have heard some horror stories about experiences with replacement Batteries.

Recommend getting the replacement from OWC at http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple_laptop/batteries/PowerBook_G4_12 . I've bought several replacement batteries from them that have worked fine, and OWC has a well earned reputation for standing behind their products. Where I've seen horror stories is with batteries bought from ebay or craigslist-like sources.
I am still left to wonder just how much Battery Capacity will remain after the initial conditioning is done.....
I seem to recall my OWC replacement got about 5 hours when new. After five years it's good for about 90 minutes of continuous use:
