The Inspector button clicks on the Tool Bar, but doesn't appear on the screen. I've also tried "show inspector" from View, but it still doesn't work. Can you explain or offer a suggestion? It was working fine and suddenly stopped working.

Try cleaning up your windows. The Inspector may be behind something with stay-on-top priority, such as a help window.
Another possibility is that you may have changed screen resolution and if so Inspector may be off screen. If that happened go back to the highest pixel resolution available for your system.

This is often a symptom of corrupt Pages preferences. Go to (your account) > Library > Preferences & delete the com.apple.iwork.pages.plist file & restart Pages. If you're using Lion you need to go to Finder & hold down the Option key while selecting the Go menu to reveal your user library.
Found it! It WAS in another window display.
