GarageBand won't open after installing

I have not experienced this however it sounds like all you did was finish downloading the app and you are triggering another download when you think you are opening the program. I suggest reading the directions again to see whether you have missed steps.

I met the same problem, it takes me about 8 hours to downlad, and when it completed, it shut down, when i restart the garageband app, it began to download again, 8 hours again, but still, not working, repeating downloading, Can technitions come to help?

called apple care, no solution...... omg.... i have to download again for 8 hours in my new accout...good luck~

The same thing happends to me.

Everytime I open the Garageband 11, it starts downloading and installing.

this is a plist problem。

Try this,

To do this in the Finder:

Select Go -> Go to Folder...

Type: ~/Library/Preferences

Locate the com.apple.garageband.plist file

Move it to your desktop.

Relaunch GarageBand.

This should take care of this problem

The problem is that Hijesz did not include the entire path to the .plist file. There is more than one Library => Preferences/ folder:

1. Main Hard Drive => Library => Preferences/ **it is NOT here**

2. Main Hard Drive => Users => User Name => Library => Preferences/ **it IS here**

Login in as user

go finder

(Go) in the Manu bar

Click option key

You will see library

Go inside

Find preference

I am having this same problem. I purchased a new macbook pro 2 days ago, and have been trying every day to open garageband. However, each time it restarts the 4 hour download process and never actually opens the program. Very Frustrated! Please Help!!

p.s I did try the plist thing and it still did not work.

You must have left something out or it may be a difference between the OS versions you and I have. I am on OS X 10.6.8. If you click on Go in the Menu Bar of the Finder it opens a drop-down menu. Then merely clicking the Option key does nothing. It does not reveal a Library folder.

In OS X 10.6.8 it is not necessary, to use the "Go" menu from the Finder to reveal your uder library. Just open your Home-Folder from the Finder sidebar and you will see your user library, since it is not hidden in Snowleopard.

I tried Hijesz suggestion:

Type: ~/Library/Preferences

Locate the com.apple.garageband.plist file

Move it to your desktop.

Relaunch GarageBand.

(except I put the plist file in the trash) and it worked.

Thank you, Hijesz. That worked! I have tried about every other suggestion to solve the problem on the net. For some reason apple hides the .plist file pretty well in Lion. I did not even know that there was a library folder hidden in the Go menu in finder.

If you have Mountain Lion the the resolution is :

Firts you need to show preferences folder on library folder beacuse on Mountain Lion is hide

Launch Terminal from Spotlight or Launchpad -> Utilities, and enter the following command to show or

hide the directory:

chflags nohidden ~/Library/

then

Select Go -> Go to Folder...

Type: ~/Library/Preferences

Locate the com.apple.garageband.plist file

Move it to your desktop.

Relaunch GarageBand.

Just to add my thumbs up...this worked for me too.

Mac Mini, Mountain Lion, new install of Garageband.

Find that PLIST, get rid of it, works great.
