Apple tv install issues

I just purchased and am trying to set up an apple tv (3rd generation). The unit when plugged in, shows the apple logo on my tv then goes blank. It offers no opportunity to configure to my secure wireless network. I did restart the unit by pressing the menu and down button on the remote but again it showed the logo then nothing.


I am certain my wireless network meets the requirements of the unit. I have aslo unplugged my router, apple tv and tv for a few minutes as is also recommended, with the same results.


Has anyone encountered this issue and resolved it?

Sounds like a HDMI issue on your TV. Not network releated.


The Apple TV should be auto sensing the TV's display capability (if its 720p or 1080 (i or p) - as to not overdrive the TV when starting up for the first time. There are options to force the Apple TV into a certain mode, but obviously you have to be able to see the menu first!


Double check your HDMI cable, and check your input settings on your TV (or receiver if you are sending the HDMI signal through one first).


Also, try another TV if you can, or at least another input on the TV or receiver.

The tv I have is a newer Sony Bravia with 720 and 1080p capabilities. I have swapped hdmi cables as well as connecting to the second hdmi port...with the same results.


The unit itself does have a solid light on so I am not sure where to go from here.


The hdmi cables I am using are fine, having used them right up till the time I had them connect to the apple tv.
