Hi!
Once in a while, my client and I accidently drag an icon while clicking on it to make it go away. Is there a way to lock these dock icons so they won't move and vanish? Yes, our hands aren't steady since we're old. 😟

Use the somewhat unfortunately named "Parental Controls".
In System Preferences > Users & Groups, authenticate, select the account, un-check "Allow user to administer this computer" and check "Enable Parental Controls":
Open Parental Controls and make sure "Allow User to Modify the Dock" is not selected:
Maybe do a Get Info on this file & Lock it...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist

No, but a Standard (or Managed) account is not a bad idea for routine use as it provides one more safeguard against unintentional system changes.
Even in a Standard account, if you need to do something requiring Admin privileges, you simply have to authenticate with an Admin name and password. No capability is lost.

Weird. Web browsers' secured web sites did not work like https://gmail.com, https://webmail.earthlink.net, https://google.com, etc. I don't see how that is related to Parental Controls' changes for dock modification?

Are you serious? What the heck? Why hasn't Apple fixed this? OK, I guess I can't use Parental Controls method just to change the dock modification! FYI, undoing this makes the standard account's access to https:// work again.
Can you clarify the steps to enable https:// in a managed account, & what OSX version you're using?

Huh? I never got https web connections to work under stadnard account with Parental Controls' disabled dock modifications. I had to undo the changes.

I tried Mac OS X 10.7.3 on a Mac Mini and I was able to reproduce it. At least Safari told me that https connections is blocked by design and that I could whitelist the specific secured web site. Too bad there's no way to allow ALL secured web sites in both versions. 😟
Agreed, sometimes I think Apple makes their money by never fixing anything in an older OS, then sell you a new one with that fix, but 42 more bugs features to be fixed in later OSes. 😟
The Snow Leopard versions of TinkerTool and Onyx can both lock the Dock content - it's in the Dock tab of TinkerTool, and the Parameters>Dock tab in Onyx.
Leopard can't run the Snow Leopard versions of these apps, and I can't run the older Leopard versions to see if they also have this feature. It's worth a look, though. The above MacUpdate pages give download links for older versions.
