wifi issue new ipad

ok people, I understand many have issues with the wi-fi connection. In my case, measured with speedtest.net, compared side by side laptop and ipad.

laptop ~ 1.5mbs download (I know, crappy hours + comcast)

ipad ~ 0.5 mbs download

so, when an explanation and/or fix?

thanks.

yes, they connected to same server. Did the tests 3 more times, various hours, the best from the laptop I got was around 10 mbs download (I would expect even more maybe, still not bad), the best I got from ipad was 0.6 mbs...Probably crappy wireless network card, still, this is brutal, I'll return it if in 2 weeks they don't update *something*...

I spent 2.5 hours on the phone with Tech Support last night and they can't even confirm a problem and blame the router which by the way is an Apple router. My wifi indicater goes from 1 to 3 bars every miniute or so but is steady if I hold it up to the router.

I am returning the iPad today and this will be the last product I buy from Apple. I have driven over 160 miles dealing with this and five hours of tech calls, two exchanges. Go Droid!

I feel your pain, I'm in a better position, I use it mostly for reading various books (architecture, photos and stuff) and the screen is fantastic, don't get that from the current droids. Having played also with an asus transformer prime, I must admit that the transformer prime seemed a lot clunkier (the book reader would stop filipping pages after 3-4, or take weird breaks, whatever).

THE ISSUE HAS BEEN FIXED.

1. upgraded the firmware for the wireless router to last possible - I have a Belkin N1 ver 2001

2. went to settings in the router, left the security as it was (WPA2 + AES), changed 2 things:

2.1. changed the "wireless mode", from "11g+b+n" to "11n"

2.2. changed the "bandwith", from "20MHz+40MHz Auto" to "20MHz Only"

result, measured with speedtest.net app and web for the laptop, get (about the) same download speeds on IPhone 4, IPad 3, laptop: ~10-11mbs downloads, about 3mbps uploads. This is more like what I would have expected...

I recently experienced wifi problem with the new Ipad3. I was at the Philippine airport and been trying to connect for hours while waiting for the boarding time but never succeeded. First, I thought that the wifi-router must be defective until I asked fellow passengers if they are connected - and they are. The ipad can search for the available wifi's but cannot connect to any of them ( I mean the free ones at the airport)

After arriving in Singapore, I asked for an access username and password at the information counter. Good, I was able to connect but experienced a lot of cut-outs even though the signal is good.

A friend recently send me a report about wifi connectivity, and before I thought it was a wifi problem.

Will apple be able to solve this with a software upgrade? or this is really a hardware problem?

Please tell me if you are experiencing the same thing on your new Ipad3

Torchs,

You don't seem very happy, but try to recognize we are trying to help.

Most hotels and conference centers have technical support. I would recommend calling them if you are having trouble connecting on your device. It could be the switch (a device that adds ports to routers, or extends reach, more commonly called an AP.)

Can you connect in the lobby and hold a signal?

If so, it may be the higher you go in the hotel, the more problematic it is.

Sam,

I am sorry about that, I was just frustrated when eberyone can use the wifi except me when I was at the airport, and believe me, I tried all the time while I was therebut never succeed.

I still don't know how that SIM PIN, will affect me, I ask for my PIN last night and tried doin it.

I hope it works now and Apple find and suggest a permanent fix on this.
