When you contacted AT&T & requested they unlock your phone, what did they say?

Why not? Only they can authorize the unlock.
Well, if you want your phone officially unlocked, I suggest you do, because only AT&T can authorize the unlock.

I have requested an official unlock from att and received permission. I an now trying to unlock it with iTunes . I have done a back up and am now restoring still with the old not-active att SIM card inside. It's syncing for several hours already. Should it work or was I supposed to switch SIM cards before I restore?
Was anybody successful in legally unlocking an att iPhone?
