Q: Prob: 2 Apple IDs...

After years of knowing something was wrong I finally figured it out, I have 2 different Apple IDs. Both use the same email address because I am only one person, and have all identical information. Apparently this started years ago when I signed up for this discussion board, because my username is Gnarlodious. I sign in with username Gnarlodious and that is the name that appears to other users, which is how I want it.

Unfortunately this collides with all other Apple websites, which require my email address (subdomains, ITMS, Developer, etc). Still not a problem, except that I am unable to register my products because it tells me that my serial number is registered to another user. Oddly enough, that user has the same email and name as myself!

I first registered back in 2004 for these discussions. You only needed a username to login, a policy that continues to this day. Later on, I was forced to create another user to log in to every other Apple website. As a result, I ended up with duplicate IDs, both of which compete for my browser's attention. Cookies, autofill and passwords are all messed up. This is the main reason I quit coming to this site and answering questions.

A few years ago I asked on this page if there was a solution to the problem, and was told NO, it is not possible. Evidently the brilliant programmers at Apple can't figure out how to have one Apple ID for all Apple services.

Thanks, that'd be helpful. I can't hardly believe I'm the only one who has ever had this problem.

I received backchannel information informing me that it is not possible to resolve the problem.

For users, it means that if you have somehow ended up with an Apple Discussions ID that is different from your Apple ID, you are stuck with two different IDs permanently.

If you only have a few posts or don't care, you can fix it now by abandoning your posting history and Level status, and creating a new Discussions ID using a different name. You would then login with one Apple ID. Your old Discussions account cannot be deleted, it is up to you to not inadvertently login and use it.

In the case of my Product Registration, I will have to log in to the wrong account and unregister the serial numbers, then log in to the right account and re-register them.

I accept that we live in a universe of Ultimate Duality, but this situaton carries that principle to its logical extreme.

All I can say is, this is the reason I avoid this website.

This is exactly what has happened to me.  One day last week while attempting to add an email address to my Apple ID profile, I received an error message that the email address in question could not be attached to that Apple ID as it was already attached to another Apple ID.... ????   (This is after months of trips to Apple "Genius'" in attempt to straighten out problems with downloaded purchases disappearing, etc. )  turns out an old hotmail email address that I've not used in YEARS was also showing as an Apple ID with all of my info and many of my purchases that I could not find after purchasing.  Now I'm stuck not knowing how to merge these accounts and how to get the  info downloaded in the old hotmail address into my itunes.

Does anyone know of a series of podcasts or tutorials for those of us who don't find the apple products as intuitive as they are marketed to be??  I'd be so appreciative of a pointer to a resource that could explain things to  me on a level that I could understand.  My 2 1/2 year old grandaughter knows more about navigating devices than I do!!
